A Little College on a Hill

https://orthosphere.wordpress.com/2019/08/01/a-little-college-on-a-hill/

One evening in early November, 1927, Dr. Harry Hefner Price stood in the old Chapel Hall of Westminster College and addressed a convocation of students, alumni and friends of the institution. Westminster College sat atop a limestone bluff in Tehuacana, Texas, a town you have never heard of, and the old Chapel Hall was in a handsome three-story building made of stone quarried from that very hill.

I came upon this building quite by accident in the course a recent ramble, and was suitable astonished. It is not the sort of thing one expects to find upon turning a corner in a tiny and down-at-heels Texas town.

Study: relationship problems, not family rejection, leading cause of higher gay suicides

While many assume that family rejection is the leading cause of depression among LBGTI individuals, a new study has found that in fact the problem appears to stem predominantly from the higher incidence of relationship problems among homosexuals.

Dr. Delaney Skerrett led a team of researchers from the Australian Institute for Suicide Research and Prevention (AISRAP) in studying suicides in Queensland. He found that a leading cause of suicide among “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex” (LGBTI) people is stress from their romantic partners.

“We tend to assume that the psychological distress LGBTI people are often going through is due to family rejection. But it seems that’s not so much the case. The conflict seems to be largely related to relationship problems, with partners,” Dr. Skerrett said.

In fact, he said, “The numbers are telling…

Bug Out Bag, Get Out Of Doge bag, grid-down

Really?

Let me describe what a GOOD or BOB is before I go on. A “GOOD” bag is a Get Out Of Dodge bag. A “BOB” is a Bug Out Bag. Both represent your last chance at survival in a serious disaster or grid-down situation where all you can carry to survive on is contained therein. Yes, that serious.

72-hour kit is not a BugOutBag or get out of dodge bag grid-down

72-Hour Kit

The GOOD BOB is not to be confused with “72-hour Kit” or a GHB (Get Home Bag) by any means.

A 72-hour kit is a far more conventional item that a family would use to evacuate their home with to get by for the 72-hours it would take to get more organized and formal emergency efforts into place. 72-hour kit is for the normal emergency and disaster situation where help will come. A GOOD BOB is more along the end-of-the-world scenario stuff.

An ‘Asylum Seeker’ in Maine Says the Congolese Want Houses; Question Where is our Money?

The money Prince Pombo is talking about is the $850,000  (give or take a few thousand) that generous do-gooder Americans have sent for the care of the African asylum seekers who arrived recently (and unexpectedly!) in Maine after illegally crossing the US southern border.

Frauds, Crooks and Criminals

The money Prince Pombo is talking about is the $850,000  (give or take a few thousand) that generous do-gooder Americans have sent for the care of the African asylum seekers who arrived recently (and unexpectedly!) in Maine after illegally crossing the US southern border.

(See all of my previous posts on the migration of the DR Congolese to Maine by clicking here.)

And, so you don’t forget, we have admitted 50,000 from the DR Congo through the US Refugee Admissions Program and thousands more through the Diversity Visa Lotterywhich begs the question: couldn’t they wait their turn for legal admission to the US?

Apparently not, and this story (hat tip: Frank) about one of their spokesmen—Prince Pombo—raises even more questions.

He says he traveled for three years after leaving the DR Congo. He even lived in Brazil and married a local woman there.  Why…
